Sports days are celebrated in schools to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and a healthy competitive spirit. Sports play a crucial role in a child's development, fostering discipline, perseverance, and a sense of fair play. The 18th Annual Sports Meet - 2024 of Zion.Matric.Hr.Sec.School, Sembkkamschool was a spectacular event, filled with excitement and energy. Students from all grades participated enthusiastically in a variety of track and field events, showcasing their athletic abilities and sportsmanship. To celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and to honor the winners of various sporting events, Mrs. S. Rajeswari IPS, Inspector General of Police/Member of Secretary TNUSRB, was invited as the Chief Guest, along with the Guest of Honour Mr. D. Selva Prabhu, International Volleyball Player. The vibrant atmosphere, cheering crowds, and the sight of young athletes giving their best made it a memorable day for everyone involved.
Every year, on teacher’s day, our Zion & Alwin group of schools management honours its select few teachers for their outstanding performance in their work with the 'Best Teacher' award. It is given in recognition of their dedication, commitment and endeavor towards perfection. In Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sembakkam, - K.G, -PRT, NIRMALA SIVAKUMAR TGT II(ENGLISH) , and RAJESHWARI - PGT II(COMMERCE) were chosen as the 'Best Teacher' award winners for the academic year 2024-25.
Our school celebrated the 78th Independence Day with enthusiasm, fostering a spirit of unity and by honouring the sacrifices of freedom fighters. The event began with flag hoisting by our school Principal, followed by a March-past lead by the School Pupil Leader, the Assistant School Pupil Leader, the Sports Secretary, Assistant Sports Secretary and the Captains and Vice-Captains and the march past contingents of all the four houses and the clubs. It was followed by a speech given by our Principal, who paid tribute to our freedom fighters and urged students to take pride in their heritage and contribute to India’s prosperity. This was followed by dances, patriotic songs and cultural events and finally ended with the National Anthem.
To combat the growing issue of drug addiction among youth, our school implemented a comprehensive drug awareness programme. This programme aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of drugs, the importance of living a healthy drug-free lifestyle, and empower them to make informed choices. To reinforce the message, students were asked to take a pledge, committing to abstain from drugs and to encourage their peers to do the same. This programme played a crucial role in promoting a drug-free environment and protecting the health and well-being of Tamil Nadu's youth.
Our school recently held a democratic election to select the rightful candidates for posts such as the School Pupil Leader, the Assistant School Pupil Leader, Sports Secretary and the Assistant Sports Secretary. Students from all grades were encouraged to participate, and the election process was fair and transparent. Candidates presented their platforms and visions for the school, emphasizing their commitment to student welfare and school development. After a spirited campaign period, the election results were announced, and the newly elected leaders were formally invested with their responsibilities. This democratic exercise not only provided students with valuable leadership experience but also fostered a sense of community and civic engagement.
A cornerstone of our school's tradition, the Investiture Ceremony has been a time-honored event since its founding. It is more than just a formal bestowal of titles and responsibilities. It's a celebration of potential, a recognition of capability, and a commitment to a journey of excellence. Our Chairman, Dr. N. Vijayan, recognises deserving individuals and grants them leadership roles to lead other students by being their role models. Every year, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister K Kamaraj is celebrated by the students and staff of our school as "Education Development Day '' with speeches, skits, dressups and essay writing competitions to mark ‘Kalvi Valarchi Naal’, to assure in the spirit of education advocated by the ‘Kingmaker’ K.Kamaraj.

It was a bright and beautiful day, at Zion International Public school, Mappedu, and the sports ground was thronged by parents and children alike to take part and witness the 17th annual Sports Meet-2023 of Zion.Matric.Hr.Sec.School, Sembkkam. It is an undeniable fact that sports plays a pivotal role in having a positive impact in the lives of children. It is understood that participation in sports can aid physical and social development, contribute to academic success, to help nurture a child’s self-esteem and to build team spirit. Hence, at Zion.Matric.Hr.Sec.School, Sembkkam, we encourage the children to be active partakers in various sporting activities. To celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and to honor the winners of various sporting events, Mr. Siva Kumar, Former Sr. National Basketball Player, was invited as the chief guest, along with Mr. C.Jaya Pradeep Chandran, Chairman of Tambaram Corportion. The programme consisted of several on the spot events and display of talents by children from kindergarden to higher secondary students.
Drug-addiction leads to degradation of physical, psychological and social well-being. In order to highlight the ill-effects and to bring out the importance of living a healthy drug-free lifestyle, an awareness programme was conducted. The students of Zion Sembakkam, under the leadership of the School Pupil Leader, pledged not to fall into the vicious trap of drug addiction. The awareness program has shaped students’ attitudes, behaviours, and decision-making abilities, leading to a decreased risk of drug addiction in their adult lives.
A ‘Motivational & Career guidance programme’ was conducted in school premises. The guest of Honor was Prof.Dr.S.Iniyan, Former Dean of College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University. This programme was conducted for the students of 10th.11th & 12th std. It was a highly interesting and interactive session, which touched upon areas such as daily preparation, presentation skills and overcoming all the distractions. It was a beneficial for both the students and teachers.
In order to bring about an awareness among the students, about the importance of eating healthy food, and to avoid getting fascinated with the junk food, which causing several health problems, the school has encouraged the students to organise a food festival. A variety of dishes were on display at the Food Festival and the students explained the nutrients and vitamin in each foods
July 15th is the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister K Kamarajar and it is observed as "Education Development Day '' in our State. To celebrate the 'King Maker's' 120th birth anniversary, activities such as speeches, skits, dressups and essay writings were conducted in our school. It was done so to encourage the spirit of education advocated by K.Kamarajar.

Yoga is a mind-body practice that combines physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation. It has a wide range of benefits for physical and mental health, including reducing stress, improving flexibility, and increasing strength. International Yoga Day 2023 was celebrated on June 21st in our school campus to raise awareness about the various benefits of practicing yoga.

The real meaning of pongal was illustrated with a jolly ride on the bullock cart with the kindergarten kids.Display of earthen pots and sugarcane illuminated the spirit of the celebration.Children dressed in their traditional attire made it a day of memory.

Mr.Sundarraj T, National Level Athelete presided over the function as the Chief Guest.
Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and respect at the school campus.The school was decorated with tricolor balloons and flags welcomed the eyes of all to the function. The Chief guest of the day was Tmt. Magudeeswari. T, Inspector of Police Chitlapakkam honoured the event by hoisting the flag and witnessing the colorful march past.
To bring out the students’ creative and innovative ideas Science Exhibition is conducted in the school campus every year. This year, the exhibition was conducted under the title ‘Technorama Fest’ on 15th November 2019. The Chief Guest Dr. T. Ravikumar, Senior Consultant at Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre, appreciated the students for their interest in displaying working models to explain the concepts.
We appreciate the role of grandparents in nurturing their grandchildren both physically and emotionally and celebrate Grandparents’ Day every year. This year on 7th December our school tiny tots performed skits and role plays to bring out the vital role played by their grandparents in their lives.
The 13th Annual Sports Day was celebrated on 25 January, 2020. The Chief Guest Mr. Nandakumar (IRS, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax Department) insisted that sports and games are as much an important part as studies and students should not ignore sports and games. The performance of our school children is a testimony to his message.
The Chief Guest who graced this year’s National Republic Day was the Sub Inspector of All Women’s Police Station, Chitlapakkam. She spoke on the safety and security of women and children. She also gave a demo of the app KAAVALAN SOS developed by Tamil Nadu Police Department for the people in need of police protection especially for the women and children.
